Besonderheiten:
Oben ist Cope's Plecostomus scopularius abgebildet, dies gilt als Holotyp (SL 49,5 cm).
Fowler hat 1915 ANSP 8081 als Typusexemplar festgelegt, was demnach ein Lectotyp ist (auch wenn teilweise auch fälschlicherweise als Holotyp bezeichnet):

Ray & Armbruster (2016) haben die Art ohne nähere Begründung und trotz deutlich abweichender Zeichnung (s. Muste im Kopfbereich) mit Squaliforma horrida (bzw. nach deren Nomenklatur Aphanotorulus horridus) synonymisiert, so dass wir sie vorerst weiterhin als valide führen.
