Etymologie:
Die Art ist Daniela Fernandes Roxo, der Schwester des Erstbeschreibers gewidmet.

Besonderheiten:
Die Art verfügt über keine ausgeprägte Adipose, besitzt statt dessen aber an dieser Stelle ein unpaariges Knochenplättchen. Dies ist untypisch für die Gattung Parotocinclus, der die Art zunächst zugeodnet war.
Ohnehin ist die Gattung nicht monophyletisch und Lehmann et al. (2014, 2015) sehen die Notwendigkeit einer neuen Gattung, die sich unter anderem durch einen dreieckigen schwarzen Fleck an der vorderen Dorsalbasis auszeichnet. Rhinotocinclus dani wird auch dieser Gruppierung zugerechnet, zu der z.B. auch Rhinotocinclus amazonensis, Rhinotocinclus britskii und Rhinotocinclus longirostris gehören.
Auch Rhinotocinclus britskii und Rhinotocinclus bockmanni gehören zu dieser Gruppierung.
In 2022 wurden diese Arten in die neu aufgestellte Gattung Rhinotocinclus überstellt.
