Hi,
L399/L400 doesn't come from Rio Iriri, that's the problem. Hypancistrus sp. L236 and L250 comes from Rio Iriri, but to me it doesn't look like one of them. As far as I know, Rio Iriri is a nature protection area and fish are getting caught there pretty rarely. But the experts can tell you a bit more, I think. Sure is, it's a Hypancistrus. Hi Raul,
we often have discussions about Hypancistrus like that, we never come to an conclusion, because there are too many similar looking Hypancistrus ... If its really caught in the Iriri it could be a L236 or L250 but you'll never know..

Hi,
well, this time the habitat is known and that's more than we usually have. Usually the people buy some Hypancistrus with any L# or just as 'Hypancistrus sp.' but they and the dealer don't have any habitat. But I don't think it's a L236. The pictures of L250 I know look quite different. Bye Marc |

![]() Here's a picture of the fry. Some are striped and white, and one is spotted and white; some are really dark and others are really light. ![]() The one above is the beta male. The alpha male is white and black patterns, the female is very dark with only little white. Thanks everyone! ![]() |

Hi Raul,
a closer look to the fry could possibly help. I hardly see anything... Maybe you could take some pictures of the other adult male and female aswell. Bye Marc |

Hello,
are you sure it's a Hyp.? I'm not an expert, but I have some different Hyps. and L134. My opinion is that this animals body look like a pekolita. If I look at the tail fin, it's with much closer and thicker spouts. The spouts of the dorsal fin look thicker to. Do you caught them self :-) ? Kind regards Michael
