Größe:
Die Größe des Holotypus beträgt 18,6 cm (SL), die Paratypen sind bis zu 26,8 cm (SL).
Wasserwerte:
pH: 6,8 - 7,1, Leitfähigkeit: 50–60 μS/cm (beides vom Typusfundort)
Empfohlene Beckengröße:
ab 150 cm
Etymologie:
Arecuta ist das GuaranÃ*-Wort für Harnischwelse.
Haltung:
Hypostomus arecuta sind vermutlich wie gattungstypisch Allesfresser (Omnivore), so dass bei der Ernährung auch pflanzliches Futter beigemischt werden sollte.
Besonderheiten:
Die Art kommt sympatrisch vor mit Hypostomus commersoni, Cochliodon cochliodon, Hypostomus uruguayensis, Hypostomus latifrons, Hypostomus luteomaculatus, Hypostomus microstomus, Hypostomus boulengeri und Hypostomus ternetzi, wobei die letztgenannte Art am nähesten mit Hypostomus arecuta verwandt ist.
